Did you notice everyone's always busy but never seems to be able to get enough done?
Every year it seems that our attention span goes down. We're having more and more difficulty focusing on one thing at a time. And when we do start to focus, something pulls us away. The fact that the brain is always seeking out what’s new and what’s next has a genetic premise.
Despite the progressive environment our survival instinct still depends on being able to focus on what’s important – in ancient times it was what is moving in a current digital era moving targets have become clicks, swipes, pop-ups, beeping, and ringing.
What is FOCUS?
The definition of focus is - a center of activity, attraction, or directed attention.
Internal and external distractions, like the ones described above, cause us to lose focus.
Where do we keep losing focus?
Usually, people don’t have a problem focusing in the first place. They have trouble with choosing, what task most important among other important tasks. Do you recall the day when you had a deadline to finish the task? Of course, you do, because you choose to prioritize it and whether it was time pressure, urgent matter it forced you to commit to action and make that choice.
But what could help to maximize your focus and regain your focus is these techniques.
Sit back for a moment //
Before you approach your work -start by take a 1 or 2 minutes let your body calm down and take a deep breath (give meditation a try), you’ll find it helps to see clearly and concentrate you mind, due to high level of adrenalin or sense of anxiety flow through your body.
Where is your focus today? //
Before you distract, figure out first what are you working on? Is it worth random email destruction or unexpected call that can go into voice message? You could easily apply this rule for your upcoming tasks, plans this month, upcoming year, or you already know? Then go ahead and block your dedicated time and set the focus.

Do one thing at a time //
Switch between tasks. If you do, it will only take you longer. Try not to get distracted by tweets and phone texts. If possible schedule a time slot to deal with them so that they do not hinder your progress on more important tasks. Study shows - It takes 64 seconds to resume the previous task after checking your email.
You know you got it, are you? //
It is impossible to have a laser focus and motivation to do tasks that consider being priority, who decide they are your “must do’s” – your results! Measure your past progress and give yourself feedback. It natural to have a desire to know whether you getting closer to your goals and what areas of life important, or need improvement, but withought measuring its focus and concentration is weak. We measure the things we improve and only through numbers and clear tracking that we have any idea if we are getting better or worse.
Do the jobs you worry most //
Difficult phone call with, bad news to a manager, your client, do them first thing. That way you can move onto something you’re excited about working on.
Yay or nay //
To concentrate on one thing you must, ignore many other things. So it comes to learn how to say no (not to all things, just for a present task) which destructing you from the main focus. Elimination could free your concentration.
Where your time goes?//
Overlook your day, concentration usually rise best in the morning or late at night, where and when you focus best? How often do you check email, Facebook, LinkedIn, your cellphone? Can anyone get instant access to you when they walk in your workspace?Best way to block and schedule specific time to address questions/issues. You can accomplish more than you think with an extra 15-20 minutes every now and then throughout the day. Don't wait for large blocks of time to get started or you may never get to it.Remember if you not manage your time, time and destructions manage you.
Get rid of clutter //
What is it have to do with focus? Clutter effect our focus more then you think. Clutter affects all of us, it effect our brain as well to remind us about disorganization and overwhelm. Visual clutter providing immediately visible negative effect: clothes in your closet, papers on your desk, overload email folders with not responded letters,books on your shelf. It difficult to stay focus and to start a protect when you can’t find any pen, business cards or extension cord. Don't let visual distractions cost you important focused time.
Bonus.
Just do it //
Commit to your task. Shut the door. Turn off your cell. Clean up you desk. Set he timer. If needed put sign outside or notify as assistant. By removing distractions, you will accomplish some of your main business and goals tasks even sooner than you expect. Secret here is to turn into habit and do it repetitively until it stick with you.
I you fear that you don't have the skills to accomplish something important? Or simply don’t have enough information to train yourself? Take time with a draft some reasons why you aren't tackling something and then figure out how to fix them. You could always get a support partner.
Focusing on outcomes and goals is our natural tendency, but focusing on processes leads to more results over the long-run. Knowing how to focus is crucial; especially today, as we live in the era of distraction.
IF YOU STILL FEEL LIKE YOU LOOSING FOCUS:
take some downtime and hydrate yourself with water/coffee or tea/,
add cardio to your exercise or go for a walk,
keep doing things that excites you,
look for inspiration,
check your room temperature,
re-frame negative thoughts into positive outcomes,
unplug for 30 minutes/set a timer/,
remind yourself why you set this as a priority in the first place.
